Formerly registered Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) with Engineers Nova Scotia who wish to become Active again should apply for Reinstatement.

If the former license was resigned, complete the Reinstatement – Resigned P. Eng. application

If the former license was stricken, complete the Reinstatement – Stricken P. Eng. application

 

Requirements for a complete P. Eng. Reinstatement application:

  • Completed online application
  • Applicable fees and dues
    • An invoice will be generated in online account for any additional required fees and dues once the application is processed.
    • Additional fees and dues may include dues for the year stricken, current year’s dues, and/or stamp fee
  • Detailed resume
    • Must include start and end dates for all engineering positions to date
    • This is not required if the applicant is currently registered in good standing with another Canadian jurisdiction
  • Current, valid, government issued, photo identification with signature
  • If five or more years have lapsed since the last time the applicant was registered with Engineers Nova Scotia, and they are not currently registered in any Canadian province or territory:
    • Submit a completed Competency Based Assessment (CBA) in the CBA System
      • Of the applicant’s chosen Validators, at least two should cover the total number of years since the applicant last had status as a Professional Engineer or as a Limited Engineering Licensee. Validators must be able to attest to the Applicant’s good character, good repute, and practice competency.
    • Submit a letter that includes a description of professional development activities that have occurred since the last date of registration and demonstrate competence to return to practice.
    • Write the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE), if it has not been successfully completed previously.

 

Application Processing Time

  • An application is considered complete once all application requirements have been submitted. The length of time it takes to get to a completed application will vary by applicant.
  • Once an application is submitted, the online application portal and application status can be used to monitor outstanding requirements that must be submitted before an application can be considered complete.
  • Once an application is complete, applicants can expect to receive a decision on their application within three weeks.
  • Applicants are encouraged to utilize the online application portal and the application status feature to monitor the status and processing time for their particular application. 
  • Note: application processing time may vary based on office closures and staff availability/workload.

 

Inactive Applications

Applications that have been inactive (no communication or requirements being submitted) for six months or more may require a second application fee for continued processing.
