Effective January 1st, 2004, Privacy Legislation enacted by the Government of Canada will come fully into effect. This Legislation, called the "Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act" (PIPEDA), is intended to protect individuals’ personal information. Personal information for the purpose of this legislation is defined as information about an identifiable individual, but does not include name, title, business address or business telephone number.
Information collected by Engineers Nova Scotia to carry out the Regulatory role of the organization does not fall under PIPEDA and we will continue normally with this activity.
Generally, the use of personal information in order to have member benefits information provided directly to our members from third parties (an example would be the mailing of information on the term life insurance provided through CCPE), is covered by the privacy legislation.
Withholding of Member Consent:
The Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (Engineers Nova Scotia) sponsors a range of products and services that provide value-added benefits to Engineers and their families. Engineers Nova Scotia from time to time provides your home address and other contact information to the suppliers of these products and services so that they may contact you directly. You have the option to instruct Engineers Nova Scotia not to forward this information to these suppliers. You can instruct Engineers Nova Scotia not to forward your address to these suppliers by identifying yourself and marking an X in the box below, and returning this form to the Engineers Nova Scotia office by mail or by fax at (902) 423-9769.
