Under Section 13B of the Engineers Nova Scotia By-laws, a company that provides engineering services in Nova Scotia must be registered with and receive a Certificate of Compliance from Engineers Nova Scotia.

There are two categories of company registration:

Certificate of Compliance Company: A company that employs a number of engineers and provides engineering services to the public of Nova Scotia. 

Sole Practitioner Company: A company that is owned and operated by a registered member of Engineers Nova Scotia and provides engineering services to the public of Nova Scotia.  No other engineers are employed in a Sole Practitioner Company.
