Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Program
The Competency-Based Assessment Program aims to ensure that engineers in Nova Scotia meet the highest standards of competence in their fields. This initiative enhances the quality and consistency of engineering practice by evaluating and certifying professionals based on their skills and competencies.

Timelines:
October 1 – November 30, 2024: Pre-pilot program training for assessors using sample applicants.
January 1 – June 30, 2025: Pilot program launch with select NS applicants, assessors, and validators.
July 1, 2025: All new applicants using the CBA instead of the Mentor Program.
December 31, 2026: Detailed experience records no longer accepted.
Transition Tiers:
Approved experience as of December 31, 2026 | Required Competencies |
12 months or less | 34 competencies |
More than 12 months and up to 24 months | 26 competencies |
More than 24 months and up to 36 months | 19 competencies |
More than 36 months and up to 48 months | 8 competencies |
Required competencies will be the same for each tier and will be assigned by Engineers Nova Scotia staff.
