The Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, Technical Safety Division is seeking feedback on proposed updates to safety codes referenced in the Technical Safety Regulations.

Updating these codes is part of the Division's ongoing work to ensure Nova Scotia's technical safety requirements remain current, effective and aligned with standards adopted across Canada.

Why These Updates Are Important
Adopting the updated codes will:

  • Enhance public and workplace safety by reducing the risk of equipment failures, fires, explosions and environmental releases.
  • Align Nova Scotia with current industry practices and safety requirements used in other jurisdictions.
  • Support interprovincial harmonization and labour mobility, including the mutual recognition of qualifications for skilled trades.
  • Provide greater clarity and consistency for regulated industries, inspectors and other partners.
  • Support newer technologies and equipment designs while improving compatibility with national and global markets.
  • Support cleaner energy initiatives by incorporating updated safety requirements for hydrogen blends and other emerging energy technologies.
  • Reduce potential long-term costs associated with equipment failures, liability and operational disruptions.
