Recent Sentencing Highlights the Importance of Verifying Professional Licensure

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) recently reported that an individual was sentenced to jail after being found guilty of unlawfully representing themselves as a professional engineer. Unlicensed engineering practice is illegal and can put public safety and trust in the profession at risk.
This case serves as an important reminder of why our “Verify before you Hire” campaign matters. Hiring individuals or companies that are not properly licensed can put public safety, project integrity, and professional accountability at risk. At Engineers Nova Scotia, we remind the public to always “Verify before you Hire.” Confirming that a professional or company is properly licensed helps ensure accountability, competence, and public protection.
Before engaging engineering services, always confirm that the professional or company is registered and in good standing.
