A message regarding proposed Bill 36

Dear Registrants,

As President of Engineers Nova Scotia, I want to bring to your attention the proposed Bill 36 - An Act Respecting Free Trade and Mobility within Canada. While we fully support the need for labour mobility across Canada, we have significant concerns about the potential impact on public safety and our ability to respond to safety issues.

Bill 36 would allow individuals licensed in other Canadian jurisdictions to be automatically considered licensed in Nova Scotia without additional requirements or oversight. This could undermine public safety and our regulatory authority.

We are actively working with the government to address these concerns and we have urged the Province to reconsider subsections 4(4) and 4(5) of the Bill. Our current inter-provincial mobility transfer processes are already quick and efficient, ensuring both labour mobility and public safety.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sue Molloy, P.Eng.
