Apr 1, 2020 12:00 AM

On behalf of the Atlantic Canada Water and Wastewater Association (ACWWA), we are pleased to advise that the ACWWA Water Supply Guidelines, Draft 2, dated March 2020 are available for review and comments.  A companion document, Wastewater Guidelines, Draft 2, will follow soon.

The Water Supply Guidelines, Draft 2, March 2020, include an introduction to Climate Change (Chapter 2) and technical updates throughout the Guidelines, and this is the first opportunity for stakeholder review and comments.  The Climate Change chapter aims to deliver a comprehensive overview for the strategies available to gather climate change information, assess impacts and risks, and to implement effective adaptation planning. This chapter may be of interest to all engineers.

Stakeholders who have membership in various water, wastewater, consulting, and/or Public Works associations have been notified of the Draft by the respective associations, and the purpose of this email is to notify the general engineering population of the efforts being undertaken by the water and wastewater industry with regard to climate change, and to reach engineers that are involved with the water and wastewater industry, but may not be members of the associations who have been contacted, as listed below:

  •          Atlantic Canada Water and Wastewater Association (ACWWA);
  •          Maritime Provinces Water and Wastewater Association (MPWWA);
  •          Atlantic Branch Equipment Suppliers (ABEA);
  •          Consulting Engineers Associations of the four Atlantic Canada Provinces;
  •          Municipal Public Works Association of Nova Scotia (MPWANS);
  •          Canadian Public Works Association - Atlantic  (CPWA - Atlantic); and
  •          Canadian Public Works Association - Newfoundland and Labrador (CPWA - NL).

Capacity Building is a major part of the Guidelines Updates, and one workshop was held in Halifax in October 2019.  The schedule for subsequent workshops, to be held in Charlottetown, PEI, St. John’s, NL,  and Fredericton, NB, has been, or may be, impacted by COVID -19, and will be  finalized when conditions allow.  All stakeholders will be notified through the respective associations when the workshops dates are finalized.

The Guidelines are available at the following site:

As indicated in the document, comments should be provided by end of August 2020.
