Tour the Martin Marietta Porcupine Mountain Quarry. 

The company is a leading producer of construction aggregates— crushed stone, sand and gravel—used to make concrete and asphalt for roads, buildings and infrastructure. Martin Marietta Materials Canada Limited has operated the Porcupine Mountain Quarry at Aulds Cove, near the Canso Causeway, since 1995. It was the construction of the causeway joining Cape Breton Island to mainland Nova Scotia that led to quarrying in the area in the first place. 

 

10:00 am – Meet at Aulds Cove Fire Hall for intro talk from Quarry Staff

Attendees will then board a bus (provided) to head to the Quarry for the tour.

10:15-11:15 am – Tour of Quarry

11:30-1:30 pm – CPD session with Kris Dove and Conrad LeLievre and lunch.
