This event qualifies for 1 Professional Development Hour (PDH) for the Engineers Nova Scotia CPD program.

 

The Event: 

Learn about two programs available to high school and junior high school students that enable them to learn about future careers. These brief presentations will give you an overview of the benefits and opportunities for you to become involved. Ensuring students make an informed decision about their future careers benefits everyone. 

Note: Volunteer activities count for PD hours under the 'Participation' category. 1 hour of volunteering equals 1 PD hour. 

 

The Speakers: 

Lynn Hogan was recently a consultant for the Halifax Regional School Board who now works with the Department of Education to improve the Co-op offerings at all high schools in the province. She aims to build strong connections with industry to provide diverse and meaningful opportunities for students. 

 

Arylene Reycraft works with Techsploration, a non-profit that creates opportunities for young women in grades 9-12 to explore careers in sciences, trades, technology, and engineering. With 94% of participants agreeing that ‘Techsploration showed them that women can be successful in careers in these fields' and 60+% stating that 'their experience with Techsploration helped them learn skills they can use when applying for a job or at work' it is a program with a 3,000+ participant impact per year. Her focus is to help grow the program's reach by increasing awareness and community participation.
