Join Dalhousie’s Faculty of Engineering for a live panel event where we highlight the careers and impact of three engineers making an impact in water and wastewater industry.
Our panel members:
Tiannie Paul (BEng’21) pursued a career in engineering so that she could work to help provide clean drinking water and address a public health crisis that currently exists among many Indigenous communities in Canada. Tiannie’s research involves looking at how to adapt Water Safety Plans for the water systems in First Nations communities throughout Atlantic Canada. Tiannie currently works with the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority.
Ryan Dunbar is current president of SOAR. Ryan is a proud member of the Kingsclear First Nation and a professional engineer with over 17 years experience. Ryan is driven by opportunities to work on projects that benefit First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities and organizations. His experience and understanding of Indigenous services, funding, and the regulatory environment has allowed him to support the delivery of economic development, environmental, planning, housing, infrastructure, capacity building, and renewable energy projects that have positively impacted the lives of Indigenous people across Canada.
Julie DiCicco is a Professional Engineer focusing on water treatment technologies, with experience in Indigenous consultation, project management, climate change vulnerability assessments, and asset management. She is experienced in water and wastewater system design, including coordination of condition assessments for municipal infrastructure. As an environmental engineer at Dillon Consulting Limited, she works with the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority (AFNWA) to develop individual Asset Management Plans for Water and Wastewater Systems for participating First Nations Communities in Atlantic Canada (NS, NB, and PEI).
Carl Yates (MASc’92) is the current Interim CEO, Atlantic First Nations Water Authority Inc.. Carl Yates has extensive experience in the water utility profession. Mr. Yates oversaw the formation of the first regulated water, wastewater and storm water utility in Canada with the transfer of wastewater and storm water assets from the Halifax Regional Municipality.
