Join us to learn just how much communication has and will continue to change.

The research in 2021 couldn’t be clearer on how inclusion and positive workplace culture is created and built or harmed. The changes that we need to make in everyday workplace priorities, tasks and interactions on the other hand is not easy, and not clear.

Increase your understanding of the differences in employee needs and how your mindset, integrated knowledge and practice can reshape one of the most powerful tools we take for granted, communications at work.

Leader and internal communication practices have been identified as a psychosocial risk factor in the creation of inclusion and workplace psychological health and safety, as a factor in team performance and an essential in building trust and a sense of belonging. (New globally-recognized ISO45003:2021 Occupational Health & Safety Management; Canadian National Standard CSA Standard Z1003-13 (R2018)).

This is an opportunity to learn how to create the conditions and follow through with new skill and awareness that appreciates differences, diversity, human needs, preferences and styles.

Participants will learn:

  • Why inclusive leadership is at the core of inclusive workplace communications.

  • The non-negotiables about inclusive workplace communications.

  • Practical tips to release and leave behind old communication habits.

In the Summer and Fall of 2020, during COVID, Glas Ocean Electric (GOE) completed the conversion of a traditional Nova Scotia diesel powered fishing boat to a battery electric powered hybrid and tested it in a number of ways to show the potential positive impact of battery electric propulsion on emissions and noise. Dr. Molloy, the project lead, will present the work completed along with Mr. Mitchell who led the conversion work for Canadian Maritime Engineering. The project brought together 11 companies, organizations and institutions that worked together to complete a first of its kind project. The work completed has laid a pathway toward the electrification of small inshore workboats by showing a viable solution that can assist in the cleaning and quieting of our oceans.

Bios:

Dr. Sue Molloy, holds a PhD in Naval Architectural and Ocean Engineering and is the CEO/President of Glas Ocean Electric (GOE), a Nova Scotia-based award-winning company that is seeking ways to electrify marine assets to reduce emissions during operation and provide vehicle to grid opportunities. In 2021, Sue and her team won the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Engineering. Sue is an adjunct professor at Dalhousie University and specialises in sustainable ocean engineering. Sue is a board member of the Council of Canadian Academies, a former elected member of Engineers Nova Scotia Council and recently completed her term as a co-chair for Canada’s Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Discovery Grant program. Sue is an active reviewer for the US Department of Energy, Canadian national programs, many journals and is a passionate award-winning member of standards committees in the IEC and ISO. Sue is currently the Canadian Chair of ISO TC 8, Ships and Marine Technology and is the international convenor for the IEC committee focused on river turbine performance.

Dean Mitchell, Operations Manager for Canadian Maritime Engineering, Eastern Canada division, is trained as a red seal heavy equipment mechanic, marine service technician and certified dock master. Dean has 32 years of shipyard experience working on vessels from small fishing boats to large oil rigs. Dean managed the fabrication and installation team and helped in the design and installation of the systems needed to electrify the Alutasi.

As we strive towards a sustainable future, the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is well underway and the deployment of solar PV in particular has rapidly increased in recent years. However, current technologies are limited in cost and application. Perovskite solar technology has the potential to become the new standard for the solar PV industry. It will open up entirely new markets due to its flexible and lightweight features. Imagine solar being an integral part of the most energy consuming aspects of our lives: transportation and buildings.

He was the founder and president of One Wind Services, one of North America’s leading renewable energy service providers with over 225 employees and offices in Canada and the US, focused on constructing and servicing wind, solar, utility scale storage and electric vehicle infrastructure projects. One Wind was acquired in 2019 by Spark Power after which time, Paul led the Renewables Division. Paul is also a founder of development companies Watts Wind and Katalyst which have financed, constructed, and operated community-owned wind farms and one biomass plant, totaling over $100 million in assets.
