WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, Team Lead, your role as Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with an engineering team on new product development and optimization and provide knowledgeable support to a multi-disciplinary Engineering Service team. You will engage with customer problems first-hand to rationalize probable solutions and then build solutions. The role will be hands-on with the tools required, to rapidly evolve results, with particular attention to detail and with dedication to completing solutions, attaining milestones and meeting deadlines.


The role centers on leading the design and development of advanced mechanical systems, particularly for use in harsh marine and defense environments. Core responsibilities include developing equipment  such  as  winches,  launch  and  recovery  systems,  and  other electromechanical 
assemblies, with flexibility to contribute to a broader range of projects, including custom manufacturing equipment and specialized product designs.

 

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Understand and participate in the engineering design process to support new product design activities, and service support engineering.
•  Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new and existing products.
•   Perform engineering calculations to support design work (FBDs, static/dynamic load calculations, stress/strain, etc.).
•  Analyze and validate design concepts; develop testing procedures, and verify suitability of design outputs to relevant standards.
•  Perform detailed documentation to certify designs and track project development
•  Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
•  Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors.
•  Maintain and support a positive environment for learning and growth within the team.


THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
•  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or suitable equivalent industrial experience
•  5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the industrial marine sector.
•  Very strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
•  Strong understanding of fabrication and design fundamentals.
•  Advanced computer aided design skills.
•  Experience with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor and/or Solidworks considered an asset).
•  Experience with FEA software (Ansys considered an asset).
•  Familiar with typical regulatory codes and design guides for mechanical/structural/marine engineering (DNV, CSA, ASME, etc.)
•  Familiar with welded assemblies (steel, aluminum, etc.)
•  Experience with ISO9001/AS9100 projects considered an asset.
•  Experience with writing user manuals, maintenance schedules, test plans.
•  Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes and technology.

•  Willingness and demonstrated ability to multi-task, address and prioritize assignments.
•   Candidates must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a professional engineer (or engineer-in-training) with Engineers Nova Scotia, and must maintain their licensure in good standing for the duration of their employment as an engineer.

Our office is located in the heart of Spryfield, but more specifically, at 264 Herring Cove Road in Suite #100. If you know the Spryfield area – we are right across the street from Sobeys, close to the ever-increasing options for interesting lunches, and right next to beautiful lakes, forests, and trails.

 

HOURS OF OPERATION:
Our office is open Monday – Friday between 9am – 5pm. Our corporate culture values work- life balance, allowing a flexible, 8 hour workday. Remote desk options are also available at locations within the regional Innovation Ecosystem, including Dalhousie ideaHUB, C.O.V.E., ThePIER, Ignite Labs.
