Intermediate Building Science Specialist
Keller Engineering is a multi-disciplinary engineering and building science firm that provides building and systems assessment and associated repair and renewal consulting services. Since the company’s formation in 1982, Keller Engineering has worked with a diverse range of clients across several markets including condominium, commercial, residential and public buildings. We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated and hard-working individual to fill an intermediate building science specialist role in our Halifax Office.
Applicants without past engineering consulting or relevant contracting experience will not be considered. Candidates must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a professional engineer (or engineer-in-training) with Engineers Nova Scotia, and must maintain their licensure in good standing for the duration of their employment as an engineer.
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Duties to include, but not be limited to performing or assisting in:
- Visual and destructive investigations required to diagnose specific problems related to building envelope and structures and recommend repair options
- Building envelope conditions assessments and detailed report preparation
- Prepare technical engineering drawings and specifications for restoration projects in accordance with established codes and standards
- On-site field reviews of building envelope restoration projects for general conformance
- Design and construction building envelope consulting for new construction projects
- Perform contract administration
- Workload management and mentoring of junior engineering staff Professional Requirements:
- Certified Building Technologist in Architectural, Civil/Structural or Building Science related programs or Graduate of College or University Level Engineering Architectural, Civil/Structural, or Building Science related programs.
- 3-5 years experience at engineering consulting firm
- Attained or working toward professional engineering or technology license
- Must be willing to work at heights, including climbing ladders, operating swing stages, and accessing rooftops
- A valid driver’s license and access to insured vehicle for travel to project sites is required (work related mileage is reimbursed)
- Own personal form of transportation.
Coveted Skills:
- Ability to manage several tasks and prioritize these are required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective and responsive communication with the project team and clients.
- Working knowledge of building components, building envelope and structural system preferred.
- Knowledge of building and fire codes is an asset but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
