Responsibilities
• Execute and coordinate the Safety and Environmental Program and develop the Safety and Environmental Case in accordance with the Safety and Environmental Management Plan.
o This includes reviewing, analyzing, reporting on the design and escalating issues to the River Class Destroyer (RCD) certification team to achieve certificates
• Provide safety engineering input to relevant working groups and integrated product teams in support of the development, documentation, evaluation and execution of deliverables related to safety and certification, particularly the Certification Plan and Certification Compliance Matrix for all associated ship compartments and systems.
• Contribute to identifying hazards, assessing the associated risk, and providing mitigation through design or procedural changes to the RCD project.
• Provide technical oversight to the Safety and Environmental Case body of evidence presented to the regulatory authority.
Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in some or all of the following areas:
• Product/System Safety Engineering in large and complex defence acquisition projects involving coordination between multiple organizations
• Development of Safety and Environmental Cases and Safety & Environmental Case Reports
• Application of military safety standards, e.g. Mil-Std 882E, Def Stan 00-056/00-051/00-055 etc.
• Application of the Naval Ship Code
• Application of Lloyd’s Register Naval Ship Rules
• Candidates must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a professional engineer (or engineer-in-training) with Engineers Nova Scotia, and must maintain their licensure in good standing for the duration of their employment as an engineer
