We are seeking a Senior Switchyard Design Engineer to join our Station Design Department. Under the general direction of the Section Head, Switchyard Electrical & Grounding Design, you will provide leadership and act as a senior specialist in the electrical design of switchyard facilities for high-voltage AC transmission, distribution, and HVDC Converter stations.


Responsibilities:

  • Direct the design of high-voltage AC transmission, distribution, and HVDC Converter stations ranging in voltages up to 500 kV and from the concept stage to final design, ensuring design deliverables meet all the requirements of project stakeholders and owners.
  • Lead and mentor the development of staff, including engineers, technical officers, and technical assistants. Perform administrative duties, including interviews, performance appraisals, personal development plans, and discipline.
  • Supervise design deliverables and maintain accountability in terms of meeting committed scope, schedules, and estimates.

Coordinate work team efforts to ensure consistency, efficiency, and achievement of committed priorities.

  • Direct the activities of consultants and/or contractors providing designs. Coordinate with internal project managers, contract management specialists, and stakeholders throughout the enterprise to ensure that all share a common understanding of project requirements and deliverables.
  • Direct the design of all electrical aspects of station switchyards, including the overall layout, selection of equipment and placement of apparatus, structure and bus configuration, clearances, insulation levels, and specification of materials.
  • Direct development of new design standards, innovative methods, and design specifications for new or modified station facilities, plus the adherence to existing standards, practices, and procedures to ensure they are feasible and can be constructed and maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Represent Station Design and provide enterprise-level consulting services in the field of switchyard designs.
  • Assisting the SEG Section Head, oversee the coordination of Station Design's departmental Scoping and Estimating and Project Schedule Management processes. Liaise with Station Design Section Heads and Project Managers/Coordinators. Direct and oversee updates to processes and resolve challenges at the departmental level as required.



Qualifications:

  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of seven years of related experience, of which a minimum of three years is covering station design, construction, and/or commissioning.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of stations, voltage classes, and their design. Familiar with all types of equipment, including applications involving SF-6, switchgear, SVC's, and HVDC converter stations. Familiar with Electrical Code, applicable standards, and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated clear understanding of working relationships between interdisciplinary project participants, project stakeholders, and owners, including project management and project reporting activities, methods, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide mature leadership in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of a group of highly skilled engineers, technical officers, and technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and a high degree of initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully in all circumstances with internal stakeholders and external consultants, and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with others at all levels of both internal and external organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.



​Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $51.34-$70.34 Hourly,

$98,380.88-$134,784.78 Annually.
