Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer
Terrane Geoscience Inc., is an Atlantic Canadian geoscience and engineering consulting firm with offices in Fredericton, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Terrane’s personnel are experts in structural geology, rock mechanics engineering, and geospatial data collection and analysis.
We are seeking a senior level rock mechanics engineer, engineering geologist, or geotechnical engineer to be part of our team of experts working on rock engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead projects in Canada and worldwide in the mining and infrastructure sectors while working with a team of junior and intermediate engineers and geologists. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will display strong technical skills and the ability to manage large complex projects.

Location
• The location of this position is flexible within Canada.
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform advanced analyses of rock mass behavior, stability assessments, and support design.
• Develop and implement ground control strategies for mining operations.
• Conduct field investigations, data collection, and interpretation of geotechnical and geological information.
• Oversee and review the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and geoscientists.
• Assist in advancing Terrane’s rock mechanics and engineering capabilities.
Qualifications & Job Requirements
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in geological, geotechnical, civil, or mining engineering.
• An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D) is considered an asset.
• 15+ years of industry experience with a focus on rock engineering projects including open pit and underground mines, highway slopes, shafts, and tunnels.
• Business development experience in the mining and infrastructure sectors related to consulting.
• Experience in field geotechnical mapping and logging, and rock mass classification.
• Numerical modelling experience (LEM, FEM).
• Understanding of geomechanical laboratory testing and sampling.
• Excellent understanding of structural geology and stereonet analysis.
• Professional and responsive communicator with client management experience.
• A positive attitude, a team player, and ability to meet deadlines as required.
• Be receptive to feedback and collaboration with peers.
• Registration or immediate eligibility for Canadian P.Eng. status (or limited P.Eng for an Engineering Geologist)
• Valid Canadian driver’s license.
• Canadian work permit or citizenship.
• Ability to travel up to a maximum of one week per month within Canada and internationally.
