We are looking for a Professional Engineer and experienced leader who will take the patient experience to the next level with a service mindset that supports the IWK moving forward including alignment with strategy, client needs and best practice. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director Facilities and Environmental Services leads the development and execution of strategic and operational plans that deliver the best care and service, while seeking continuous improvement that drives superior performance. The Director emulates the mission and values of the IWK Health Centre through inspiring, motivating and guiding others towards excellence. As a senior leader, you will place an increased emphasis on optimization and efficiencies, customer responsiveness, and improving the client experience. The role requires an ethical leader with sound decision-making abilities and able to build solid external relationships.

This role is responsible for setting priorities, creating long-range objectives and strategic planning in the areas of Plant Maintenance and Operations, Construction and Space Management, Leased Properties and Leasing Strategies, Protection Services, Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Logistics-Supply and Distribution, Environmental Services, Energy Efficiency and Waste Management and Parking Services and Strategies. All urgent and planned work orders, client protection, capital and clinical projects, infrastructure projects, moves, other site locations, housekeeping, mechanical repairs, building preventative maintenance and more fall within this portfolio.

Supporting the COO, this position takes a lead role in reporting to the Building and Infrastructure Committee of the Board and co-creating the Key Performance Indicators and other reporting metrics to ensure good governance. The Director will take a lead role in inventory and asset management to ensure the organization is meeting best practices and that assets are properly distributed, optimized and accounted for.

The Director is committed to a high standard of performance and will provide day to day expertise and support across the organization, at all locations and throughout all services and dimensions. The Director contributes to continuous process improvement and LEAN initiatives including those achieved through collaboration with partners in the provincial health system.
