2025 Lieutenant Governor’s Excellence in Engineering Award Recipient:

The Engineers Nova Scotia Jury Panel for the prestigious 2025 Lieutenant Governor’s Award is honoured to announce this year’s successful submission for Excellence in Engineering, is Dexter Nova Alliance, for the Highway 104 Twinning Project.
The $717.9 million project from Sutherlands River to Antigonish, Nova Scotia included 28 kilometres of new two-lane twinned highway and 10 kilometres of new four-lane twinned highway. There are two new interchanges, and a total of 19 new bridge structures along the route. Dexter Nova Alliance also upgraded the existing section of highway, which included repaving the entire section of old road coupled with the replacement of 10 existing bridges.

The Honourable, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Mike Savage will present the award in a closed ceremony at Government House on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Engineering is named in recognition of J.J. Kinley, P.Eng., the first and only Engineers Nova Scotia registrant to hold the title of Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Nova Scotia and the first professional engineer to hold the position of Lieutenant Governor of any Province in Canada. The award is given annually to a team, company, government department or consortium of professional engineers, who through original achievement or creative accomplishment in the application of engineering principles, demonstrates a high quality of professional engineering standards.
