A Positive Pause– You may have seen this popular regular segment in our quarterly newsletter. This segment highlights stories of members who, through their actions, have improved the experiences of others within our profession. It’s National Engineering Month!!  (There’s a Place for You!)

Months of planning for National Engineering Month and it’s finally here!!!  The Committee has been hard at work coordinating an outstanding list of events for this month and now we need YOUR support to help make it all come together! Call your friends and family and tell them about all of the amazing things that we have planned to celebrate your profession!

Student-Professional Pizza Socials—These events provide an informal discussion forum with students about what it’s really like after university. Grab a slice of pizza and share your experiences with the engineering students about what it’s like to work in your world; whether in government or private sector, research and development or production, in the field or in the office. Time and time again we hear from the students that this is a very valuable opportunity for them to ask questions that help them decide what employment sectors are right for them after graduation. Many members who have participated in the past have found the experience to be equally rewarding. Feel free to join us at any of the universities!  For the most up to date information and specific locations, please refer to the National Engineering Month section of the Engineers Nova Scotia website

100th Anniversary Planning Update

We are fast approaching the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Engineers Nova Scotia as the regulatory body for engineers in Nova Scotia. At their meeting in March of 2019, Council passed a motion to recognize October 14, 2020 as the official date of the 100th Anniversary. Council also allocated money in the budget to be used towards the recognition and celebration of the occasion.

Council struck a Committee to investigate ways that the anniversary could be celebrated, and the list of ideas was passed on to the CEO and staff to work to finalize some events. Ideas for consideration include:

· the creation of a special 100th Anniversary edition of The Engineer, highlighting the achievements of engineers and engineering over the past 100 years.

· an enhanced celebration for members, as part of the Annual General Meeting events. The band Signal Hill has been hired to provide entertainment and is sure to be a hit.

· a logo has been created, and SWAG will be ordered to reflect the momentous occasion.

· collaborations with some of our partners to recognize the work of engineers and their impact on society.

Stay tuned for more updates and information on celebrations related to our 100th Anniversary.
