Presentation Description:

Passive House remains the world’s leading energy efficiency standard reducing heating costs by 85% and total site energy by 60% over code built construction.  This efficiency is achieved first by reducing loads with a high performance building envelope then by appropriately sizing efficient mechanical and electrical systems.  It then becomes feasible to integrate renewable technologies to reach site Net Zero.  In this session, we will discuss the principals of Passive House, the targets of the Standard and the tools used to model these projects.  We will review a sample of Passive House projects built in NS, and examples of assemblies and mechanical systems used.  Looking at the performance of these buildings, we can calculate the system size and cost of renewable technologies to bring these buildings to Net Zero.
