Future City Experience - Volunteers Needed!

Engineers Canada and Engineers of Tomorrow are looking for engineers to volunteer for the Future City Experience.

The Future City Experience is an abbreviated version of the Future City Competition that challenges students in grades 6, 7, and 8 to use the engineering design process to research, design, and build a model of a city 100 years into the future. Students this year are being asked to design a lunar city and provide examples of how the city uses two Moon resources to keep its residents safe and healthy.

If you’re an engineer, engineer-in-training, or engineering student, your engineering experience would be extremely valuable to Future City participants. Volunteers serve as role models and mentors to the participants, sharing their engineering experience, answering questions, and providing advice as students work through the engineering design process to research, plan, and build their future city.

To volunteer, you must commit to three virtual one-hour class visits between January and April 2022.You must also commit to supporting the Future City Experience Showcase in May, where students present their city models and receive feedback from engineers (approximately a two-hour commitment).

Engineers Canada has partnered with Engineers of Tomorrow to organize, train, and match volunteers with educators, classes, and students participating in the Future City Experience. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer intake form on Engineers of Tomorrow’s website by February 4th, 2022.
